Well Lived

How would you define a life that is lived well?

I think a prime example is a birthday party we attended this weekend. Our boss’s 50th birthday. This is a small town, small community. And actually, he lives out in the country, and his mailing address is at an even smaller town that ours. And yet — we figure there was probably 120 - 150 people there. From all walks of life, all ages, various degrees of “relationships” to him … from his children and grandchildren, to his siblings, his 3rd wife (who put this shingdig together), to the many friends, acquaintances and neighbors.

He is just that kind of guy. Pretty laid back, and yet, industrious, hard working, adventurous. I’ve seen a few examples where you probably wouldn’t want to get in cross-ways with him. But way more times, I have seen him bend over backwards, go beyond what he needed to, to help someone.

His life is the defination of a life that is lived well. Sadly, because of building walls and secluding myself off to protect myself, sometimes emotionally, sometimes from myself — I would have to say that I have not lived well. I have a good life, with a husband that loves me, children that are blessings to me, grandchildren that makes my world go round, and friends who will be friends to the end time, regardless of what I do to screw things up. But, these are all things other people have done, and have just chosen to make me a good part of their lives.

However. My life is not over. Hopefully, not by a long shop. Its never too late to step outside yourself and encompass other people into it, and make your life one that is lived well, from that point on.

Yours sounds like a wonderful small town or community — just my kind!
